PDN features Recent Work

Recent work on an awareness campaign for Atlanta Resource Foundation featuring twelve charities dedicated to serving Atlanta communities.

Working on set with the representatives and hearing their personal community service stories, I gained a deeper understanding of the word CHARITY.  Charity was best explained to me as offering ‘hand-ups not hand-outs’ to those who in need.  Their impact on our community is immeasurable and so is my gratitude. Thank you!

Photo District News: Scott Lowden Benefits the Atlanta Community By Jacqui Palumbo

Atlanta-based advertising, lifestyle and travel photographer Scott Lowden recently had the opportunity to take on a pro bono project serving the Atlanta community. Having a long-standing, 20-year relationship with local creative agency House of Current, he was approached by the HOC team to photograph representatives from twelve Atlanta-based organizations for the Atlanta Resource Foundation (ARF) for a calendar dedicated to charitable causes.

House of Current’s concept aimed to highlight a different local charity and raise awareness for their cause in each month. The featured organizations are Heritage Village, Inc., Juvenile Justice, Atlanta Mission, Wellspring, StreetGrace, Clifton Sanctuary Ministries, Kroc Center: Adult Literacy, CIS Westside Academy, Charis Community Housing, Odyssey III/Community Concerns, Inc. and City of Refuge Youth Outreach. The calendar serves in tandem with ARF’s mission, to “foster relationships between charitable organizations and those with the resources to help,” according to president Allen Bell.

The two-day shoot was held in Lowden’s midtown studio. Representatives for each charity stood against a chalkboard backdrop reflecting the Atlanta skyline, giving consistency to each portrait. Drawn by local artist Kyle Brooks, the scene was altered for each month according to the changing seasons. With less than a week to source an 8’ x 10’ chalkboard, Lowden and his team built it from scratch in the days before the shoot, using layers of chalkboard paint to create the perfect backdrop. Lowden shot the calendar using a Phase One 40 Plus via Capture One software. He also set up a Canon DSLR to shoot one frame per second for the entirety of the two-day shoot, later creating a timelapse of the project.
