I love using Ikea bags to organize wardrobe for productions (seen in Organizing Wardrobe and Props and Wardrobe). I also re-purpose Ikea bags in my garden during winter months. As a lover of clever re-invention, I decided to submit my extremely simple Ikea bag hack to IkeaHacker.net.
WHAT THE HECK IS A HACK?
A hack is a modification or repurposing of product. Hacks are not just for computers geeks anymore. Design Boom explains the evolution of hacking:
” the term hacking holds many varying definitions. the predominant meaning of the word used to refer to illegal activity performed by computer experts, however a new definition is slowly taking over. this new form of hacking is not done by expert computer users or digital criminals, but is in fact done by everyday people. this new terminology for hacking refers to the act of modifying or customizing everyday products to improve their functionality, repurpose them or just for fun.”
MY SIMPLE HACK
The FRAKTA, Ikea’s iconic 59₵ blue shopping bag (below)
When temperatures drop, cold sensitive plants must be protected from frost. You can either bring the plants indoors or cover them with frost protection blankets or bags. Some gardeners use old bed sheets and blankets while others use special frost protection bags and blankets purchased at garden centers costing between $12.99 – $49.99 (below) depending on size and design.
Use Ikea bags to protect your cold sensitive plants! No skills required. No complicated instructions. Carefully cover your old sensitive plants with an Ikea bag and use the bag handles to secure around the pot or plant. FIN! …no really, that’s it.
NOTE: Plants need sunlight and air to flourish. This is temporary frost protection and is best for overnights or short cold snaps.
