Fitzgerald + Co Atlanta won a Bronze Lion at the 2014 Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity for their Press Campaign. I’m proud to say that I was the photo stylist on this project shot by Clive Stewart!
Nothing makes me happier than character costuming EXCEPT character costuming with INJURIES!!! WHAT!!!??? The crutches, canes, IV bags, neck braces, and bandages were easy, but theplaster arm cast was tricky! Thank goodness for YouTube’s vast selection of orthopedic plaster casting instructional videos! You can learn crazy things on YouTube!

Communication Arts 2013 Advertising Annual selected the End It Movement awareness campaign as a Public Service winner!!! I am very proud to say I was wardrobe key and costumed the eighteen ladies in the truck for this Soteria Productions.
Communication Arts selected 138 winners from 4356 entries in 14 different advertising categories.

SO MUCH FUN!
I worked with this amazing spacesuit for a John Fulton print production this week. The production was great fun and the spacesuit looked fantastic on camera! The EMU spacesuit was a rental from WonderWorks in LA. For more information about WonderWorks production services, I have written about them in a previous post, WonderWorks 4/26/2012.
Here are a few spacesuit BTS pictures from the production. More to come ~ enjoy!
GUEST BATHROOM RENOVATION IS A WRAP …and some other projects too!
This post is long overdue. The bathroom renovation has been complete for several months, but work was absolutely nuts during the year-end advertising push. Without further delay, enjoy the renovation photos in the gallery above! I also included a couple of extra process pix below.
I made kraft paper templates of the antique mirrors, prints, and clock to arrange the gallery style placement on the wall.
Here is a funny BTS (behind the scenes) video on set with photographer Jason Maris for TG Madison’s ‘Unclean World’ campaign. This video features “The Hacker,” one of four unclean characters. Food service cutlery will forever give me germaphobic nightmares thanks to The Hacker, The Picker, Barffalo Bill, and Private Scratcher.
I loved doing wardrobe on this project! The Hacker was definitely my favorite to dress and I adore watching him in this silly BTS video!
I really enjoyed working on this character driven advertising project shot by Fernando Decillis. I love character costuming! Dressing these charming characters was a treat for me. Handling props and set dressing for these pensive environmental portraits was icing on the cake. I became moderately obsessed with orthopedic shoes and vintage metal TV trays!

Ingenuity and creativity inspire me. Combining an ingenious solve with beautiful design makes my heart skip a beat. The only thing that trumps a beautiful design solve is one that saves MONEY!
I have posted a variety of clever Ikea hacks in the past. I recently learned about Semihandmade, a company that makes custom cabinet and drawer fronts for Ikea cabinets. Kinda genius! Customers design their cabinet configuration using Ikea design services, order Ikea cabinets cases only, and Semihandmade fabricates cabinet fronts using high-end materials.
This solve saves money. The compromise is customization. Ikea stock cabinets are available in limited sizes, but buying stock can save the customer 30 – 40% on the cost of custom cabinets. Semihandmade offers shaker and slab door styles in a variety of premium wood materials including reclaimed wood options. Custom fronts are not cheap, but they are less expensive than custom kitchens.
“In late 2010, we launched Semihandmade with the goal of offering the
same Handmade craftsmanship to a wider audience, at a lower price.
We’re able to do this by customizing doors, panel and drawer faces measured
and drilled to fit IKEA™ kitchens.”
This is a great idea!
Before going back to school for commercial photography and becoming a photo stylist, I was briefly a high school art teacher. On the first day of class, I asked students to complete a short questionnaire. The questionnaire included the obligatory art ed question,
“What is your favorite medium to work in?”
This is my favorite answer to that question EVER!
RECENT WORK FOR JOHN FULTON PHOTOGRAPHY
As a stylist I source, make, or commission lots of unusual items for productions. I keep a running list of these odd requests. My list is appropriately named “Things I’ve Done for Money .” Making a bed sheet rope for this fun campaign is one of the most recent additions to my list.

It’s been a busy, busy summer. I worked on a lot of interesting projects with amazing photographers + directors, the best crews, wonderful talent, and gracious clients. I am a lucky girl indeed!
Variety is what makes my job so much fun. I am thrilled that this summer has been an unusual pastiche of projects. I’ve seen fires, farms, football, fan gear, and fabulous ladies. It’s been an F-ing great summer for a wardrobe stylist + prop stylist!
Enough work chatter. Today I am going to the beach for a little fun!
HELPFUL VISUAL REFERENCE
I love a good chart, info-graphic, or illustrated assembly manual. This women’s necklace length chart is a helpful tool for online or sight unseen shopping. It’s also great visual reference for communicating accessory looks to your clients and/or assistants. This simple chart is a worthy addition to your wardrobe reference file. READ MORE

This is a great short video about the END IT Movement stunt campaign filmed in Atlanta during the Final Four Weekend. The two minute video talks about human trafficking, the campaign concept, and campaign results. It also has some great behind the scenes footage.
I am very proud to say that I was wardrobe key on this project. Thank you Christonya Kinsey, KeKe Lowe, Rebecca Klco, and Lily Chambers for your help!
Recent wardrobe work for Dixie Smartstock’s ‘Unclean World’ campaign. Super fun project! ‘The Hacker’ is one of four unclean characters used in this B2B campaign.

I live 2.5 miles south of the King Center in Atlanta. I drive Auburn Avenue, Boulevard, and Edgewood so frequently that this historic area becomes just another traffic marker on my drive home. However, the significance of the man behind the memorial is never overlooked.
Today we honor a man whose service to humankind is immeasurable. Thank you Dr. King!

SALAD SPINNERS AND CASHMERE?
JUST SPIN IT!
You thought cashmere was DRY CLEAN ONLY? Cashmere is washable! But cashmere garments are delicate and should NOT be twisted or wrung dry when soaking wet. A salad spinner will gently remove access water without twisting or pulling potentially harming the garment. Lay the cashmere garment flat on a drying rack or sweater drier and allow to air dry completely.
…and happy holidays to you and yours!
New product loved by the hacker community and coveted by yours truly.
Sugru molds like play-dough, bonds to almost anything, and self-sets into flexible silicone after 24-hours. The ‘WTF is Sugru’ video above illustrates the many uses of this product. From custom grips on skis to repairing damaged cables, the potential uses of Sugru are broad. I can see Sugru becoming an essential item in my kit used for basic repairs, fixes, and prop making. It is important to note that Sugru is heat-resistant up to 356° Farenheit so any custom rigging or hacking around hot lights will not melt, burn, or smoke like other adhesive or putties; AWESOME! From the producer to the unpaid intern, everybody is a valuable asset. My advice is to treat every person on set with the same respect you show your superiors. Treat people like your personal success or failure depends on their opinion of your work. READ MORE

STATIC CLING IS NOT CUTE
Dry winter weather creates the perfect conditions for static cling. I always keep Static Guard in my wardrobe kit to keep static cling under control when I am on set. It’s quick and easy to spray on clinging garments. If you are on a production, it’s best to spray before talent goes on set. If you must spray on set, be aware of the camera! Do not spray Static Guard toward the lens.
Flying to a quickie out-of-town production, I cannot carry aerosol products on the plane. I pack dryer sheets instead of Static Guard for a quick static cling fix. Once dressed, simply rub dryer sheets on the outside and the inside of your garment to remove static cling!
Dryer sheets also keep my wardrobe kit smelling fresh – BONUS!
Does your hair get static electricity? Use dryer sheets to neutralize the electric charge in your hair. Gently rub a dryer sheet over your hair in the same direction your hair is styled.
Traditional dryer sheets are full of chemicals and considered toxic. Seventh Generation and Meyers both offer a non-toxic biodegradable product.
No dryer sheets on hand? Use a metal clothes hanger to discharge the electricity. Simply glide the long side of a wire or metal hanger over your clothes to remove static electricity. Kinda clever!
Runway models are not alone in experiencing slides, slips, and falls. Underestimating the power of a polished floor, we have all found ourselves flat on the floor, humiliated, and looking for the closest piece of furniture to crawl underneath.
I use one or both of these methods to prep slick, new shoes that will be worn by on-camera talent. These very simple stylist tricks can prevent both talent tumble as well as personal embarrassment:
- Sandpaper: Lightly scuff the bottoms of new shoes with sandpaper. Be careful not to scuff the sides of the shoes or any area that will be visible to camera. I keep both 80 grit and 120 grit sandpaper in my kit.
- Hairspray: Spritz the bottoms of the shoes with strong hold hairspray and let the spray dry for about a minute until it’s sticky to the touch. Spray as needed. I keep Nexxtacy by Nexxus in my kit because it is super sticky and alcohol free.
★ Make sure the hairspray will not damage the flooring surface. If you are uncertain, ask the art department, location manager, or props.

A behind the scene tour of Wes Anderson’s latest film, Moonrise Kingdom, hosted by Bill Murray and his delicious glass of spiced rum.
Could I possibly love Bill Murray more? Doubtful!
Wes Anderson’s latest film, Moonrise Kingdom, is now showing in limited release NOWHERE near me, DRATS! Cinematic frustration has left me scouring the web for all things Wes Anderson hoping to find an obscure, secret handshake venue releasing the film in the southeast. It is Wes Anderson, it COULD happen. During my on-line reconnaissance, I ran across this little commercial gem from 2008. Anderson teamed up with Brad Pitt for SoftBank, a Japanese mobile communications company. The commercial takes inspiration from Jacques Tati’s Les Vacances de Monsieur Hulot. Anderson filmed Pitt in one continuous shot at a French seaside town.
I have been asked to research space suits for several productions. For a quality replica, the weekly rental costs are around $1500 for all of the accessories and badges; $1900 after shipping. I have found several great resources but was very impressed with WonderWorks and the broad range of products and services in aerospace. READ MORE
Immensely entertaining and clever. Ursus Wehrli shares his vision for a cleaner, more organized, tidier form of art — by deconstructing the paintings of modern masters into their component pieces, sorted by color and size. Wehrli has multiple books on the subject available at Amazon Books.

Current Marking Trends’ recent article emphasizes the importance of images in modern communication and marketing trends. You know what I have to say about that? Now you’re speaking my language!
I may need 17 different designs printed on 17 different custom-made aprons in an extremely short amount of time. UhhHrumm (clearing my throat), listen up! I expect and am happy to pay rush fees because I know my rush projects are very disruptive to Danger’s press schedule.
Danger does not have everything. They are definitely lacking in the schmutz department. Danger’s shop is spotless and so is the final product. As a stylist, this is priceless.

I am often asked by the agency or production company to put together wardrobe looks or a style guide that are specific the talent, character, ad, or story line. My favorite site to build style guides is on Polyvore. Polyvore has an image library of current wardrobe pieces, visual elements, and templates to build wardrobe sets. Typically, I avoid the templates and any unnecessary visual noise. I prefer using a white background to keep the sets as simple and clean as possible. Most visual reference that I submit to clients and creative is borderline clinical in their presentation. I save the fluff and stuff for production.
